Welcome to the Blog for Adele's Eyes

  1. Adele and company spent yesterday eve with us (9.6.09). She is not quite two weeks old and a very tactile baby. I wonder if other families of blind babies notice very early that these babies don't grasp as much but reach and touch more!! ps I love baby noises!!

  2. today Molly and I got a good look inside Adeles tiny lids;no microphthalmic eyes there, just some decreasingly circular whitish tissue in shallow orbits. So ends the idea that she may have had some photosensitivity as I thought the night she was born. So also ends any hope of vision. (sigh).....but, ON WE GO!!!!! getting chubby (Adele, that is!!) and definite obvious wake/sleep times.....what a sweet girl!

  3. Today the lady came from Healthy Beginnings, to talk to Molly and Neal about state programs available to help Adele. Molly called the ocularists yesterday and learned that each conformer will cost $450 per eye and each scleral shell(artificial eye is $2450.00 per eye!! Yikes!!! We have to get on with planning some benefits!!!!

  4. The last month has been a whirlwind for baby Adele and her family. She is growing like a weed and so has had now two sets of orbital conformers; and, sweethearts that they are, the insurers have DENIED reimbursement!!! A letter of appeal has already been sent and we will not stop there! A benefit to help with these expenses is coming up, on November 7th her in Loveland. Check out the benefit page!
